Buying 2nd hand computers – life experience

Cheaper is not always better, as used equipment always carries the risks of bad use, old age and general chicanery from sellers. Just like used cars, they work until they get out of the garage, engine lights, tyres and oil leaks following suit.

I’d like to show you my experience with buying a 2nd hand computer that had been serviced by a company. It was fully cleaned, spotless with zero dust, but when I pried open the CPU cooler, which took quite some effort, I found a layer of rock.

This means the thermal paste had never been changed and was as old as the machine. Likely the computer would’ve worked, yet likely it’d have failed as well.

So the least you should always do is to change your thermal pads and thermal paste. Below is the life experience of the dirty rock and cleaner metal. And remember that the medium or purchase does not guarantee you a peace of mind.
